The 2nd floor now had full ceiling heights in all rooms and closets reconfigured to provide the best storage. A third floor addition was constructed which had to span over the existing house to eliminate interior supports which would have disrupted the first floor layout. A main floor or second floor addition will often require an excavation for a foundation ultimately leading to landscaping work. A third floor renovation does not require you to change the layout of the main floor while a second floor addition requires a main floor extension below it.
